Wendie Zahibo is a multidisciplinary artist-researcher with roots in Côte d'Ivoire and the Central African Republic. Born in 1991 and a graduate of the Harrington College of Design in Chicago, she draws from her pluriethnic family background and the rich cosmogonies of African and Caribbean cultures. Her work delves into contemporary Afro-diasporic experiences to explore Caribbean identity and its resonance within the Black Atlantic.
In 2022, she embarked on her long-term project, masonn, which focuses on vernacular architecture and mystical realism within the Afro-diasporic context. This transmedia and transnational project employs photography, collage, installation, and sound to invoke a multifaceted exploration of Afro-Caribbean identity.
Through her innovative approach, Wendie Zahibo invites audiences to engage with the profound connections between culture, identity, and space, bringing the essence of Afro-Caribbean heritage to the forefront of contemporary art
